A Review on KitchenAid KDTM604KPS Dishwasher Is it better

The KitchenAid KDTM604KPS dishwasher packs innovative features, versatile loading possibilities, and reliable cleaning power in 24 inches of high-quality stainless steel. It’s intuitive and thoughtfully designed to enhance comfort and convenience.

Featuring an advanced microfiltration system, adjustable racks, and a three-level leak detection system, the dishwasher sits at the higher end of the price range. However, it’s a worthwhile investment if you’re looking for a dishwasher that is built to last.

If you want a cheaper dishwasher with fewer bells and whistles, this isn’t for you. The KitchenAid 404 should be a better choice budget-wise.

Bosch has incredible similar-priced alternatives, but you might prefer this one if you would rather have spacious racks that can accommodate large, bulky items.

How We Reviewed the KitchenAid 604

KitchenAid has some of the most stylish, creatively designed dishwashers on the market. One of its stand-out models is the KDTM604KPS.

To help you understand how it compares to the rest, we did extensive research on the dishwasher and rated it based on the following factors: cleaning and drying performance, loading flexibility, range of operations, reliability, and operating noise.

We do not own a KitchenAid KDTM604KPS dishwasher. We also did not perform any tests on the machine for our assessment.

We collected customer reviews and ratings from KitchenAid, Best Buy, and other major appliance retailers to identify the features that owners appreciate the most and the ones that disappoint.

Such data helped us gauge the overall satisfaction rate of the unit.

We also read independent reviews conducted by Designer Appliances, Bray and Scraff, and Bellingham Electric to understand how the dishwasher compares to its competition in terms of value, functionality, and price.

KitchenAid’s 604 dishwasher has some of the most advanced cleaning and drying features the brand has to offer. Combined with its intuitive design, quiet performance, and reliability, it’s a great choice for large households.

The advanced microfiltration system enables the dishwasher to continuously remove food particles during cycles. At the same time, it circulates clean water across the three racks to ensure all dishes are rinsed thoroughly.

Such functionality allows users to wash the dirtiest cookware and the most delicate glassware in the same load, which is what makes this dishwasher ideal for households that cook a lot.

Aside from convenience, its smart wash system uses sensors to adjust the wash cycles based on the load. This ensures that all dishes come out of the racks clean and shiny after every wash.

Equally impressive is KitchenAid’s ProDrying system, which combines a heating element with a fan. It even provides an option to extend the drying time, particularly for hard-to-dry materials like plastic.

Needless to say, the 604 dishwasher is one of the best that KitchenAid has to offer. It sits at the higher end of the price range, which might seem steep for the average household.

However, the value it offers is worth its price. It’s a worthwhile investment for the household as it can last decades, depending on how well you care for it.

Our Overall Rating: 9.2/10

The KitchenAid 604 dishwasher comes with a higher price tag, but its self-cleaning filter and advanced drying system make it worth the investment.

Additionally, its intuitive design makes cleaning a lot easier and stress-free. All the racks are spacious and adjustable, which ensures that there’s enough room for everything you need to get cleaned.

Here’s a summary of how we evaluated the KitchenAid KDTM604KPS dishwasher.

Cleaning performance

We assessed the dishwasher’s ability to clean a variety of foods, ranging from fatty proteins and starchy grains to leafy greens and several baked-on treats.

Since KitchenAid boasts about its microfilter function, which enables the dishwasher to remove food particles throughout each cycle, we kept track of the stains, streaks, and spots that commonly get re-deposited.

We also took note of the dishwasher’s ability to clean different cookware and tableware on the three racks.

All this data helped guide our overall cleaning score.

Drying performance

In assessing its drying performance, we took note of its ability to dry metal, glass, ceramic, and plastics.

Most dishwashers on the market struggle to dry plastic, so we looked closely at this model’s ability to dry different plastic items, such as containers, cups, and tumblers.

Features

Since the KitchenAid 604 comes with a higher price tag, we wanted to evaluate it based on its range of features.

We referred to independent reviews conducted by Designer Appliances, Bray and Scraff, and Bellingham Electric to figure out how the dishwasher compared to similar-priced units on the market.

Additionally, we mulled over customer reviews to determine the usability of the features.

Loading flexibility

The rack design was a huge factor in our evaluation of the dishwasher’s loading flexibility.

We scrutinized how adjustable and roomy the racks were. Also, we identified what types of cookware and tableware can fit in the dishwasher.

Reliability

Customer satisfaction in terms of performance and the quality of KitchenAid’s support services were the basis for our assessment.

We looked closely at customer reviews and ratings from KitchenAid and various online retailers to gauge how reliable the dishwasher is.

What do experts say?

It cleans well and quietly.

In recent years, KitchenAid has made significant improvements to reduce the operating noise of their dishwasher. One such change was the removal of the hard food dispenser at the bottom of the unit, which caused a lot of noise while the dishwasher was running.

Now, you don’t have to worry about disturbing the neighbors by operating your dishwasher. Whether you live in an apartment or simply have a small kitchen space, its 44 dBA noise level shouldn’t be a problem in any household.

Aside from reducing noise levels, it also boosted the cleaning power of the dishwasher with the addition of the Advanced Clean Water Wash System.

Its cleaning performance is impressive largely due to this microfiltration system, which flushes out food residue during the wash cycles. It prevents the gunk from getting redistributed onto the dishes.

One caveat is that its wash times are slower compared to other dishwashers like Bosch models. You have to put up extra minutes of wash time for a deeper cleanse which, to us, is worth it.

It dries the dishes every single time.

The ProDry System combines a heating element with a fan to boost the drying performance of the dishwasher. Even among high-end models, it’s quite difficult to find a dishwasher that can deliver a powerful and reliable drying performance.

KitchenAid’s 604 dishwasher, however, does it so consistently each time. According to Grand Appliance and TV, it’s the layout of the interior, as well as the addition of a third rack, that makes its drying performance quite powerful.

If you’re looking for a dishwasher with strong drying power, we highly recommend the KitchenAid 604. Its advanced drying system will surely be worth your hard-earned money.

It has spacious, carefully designed racks.

Equipped with a spacious third rack, which is one of the largest on the market, the dishwasher can fit awkwardly shaped cookware, silverware, cups, bowls, and even six-inch glasses.

The middle and lower racks can fold down, allowing users to load bulky items like Dutch ovens, roasting pans, and serving bowls. At the same time, the middle rack can fit the most delicate wine glasses in its two stemware holders.

Compared to other dishwashers, this doesn’t have a utensil basket. However, we don’t think it’s a deal breaker as its third rack comes with a designated space for utensils, which allows optimal cleaning and drying.

It has no WiFi connectivity.

A lot of similar-price dishwashers have WiFi connectivity that allows remote monitoring and control of the machine. KitchenAid dishwashers, however, have yet to see such a feature.

Although it’s a convenient feature, especially for smart households, we don’t think it’s fundamental to your daily dishwashing needs. You can still get all the dishes done without it.

What do customers say?

  • KitchenAid’s 604 dishwasher has exceptional cleaning and drying abilities, but it does take quite a while to get the dishes clean, notably longer than the competition. Nevertheless, it’s quieter than most dishwashers.
  • Loading the dishwasher is quick and easy as there’s a place for everything on the racks. It also has adjustable rows on the middle and lower racks, which can accommodate larger cookware or tableware.
  • The majority of customers who left reviews have had little to no issues with the dishwashers per se, but those who have found KitchenAid’s customer service frustrating.

It made it a bit more difficult to address common concerns such as error codes and other malfunctions.

Summary of Reviews

Customer reviews and ratings for the KitchenAid dishwasher 604 are overwhelmingly positive, averaging 4.5 out of 5 stars on online retailers. At Best Buy, more than 90% of the customers would recommend the dishwasher to a friend.

The KitchenAid dishwasher 604 is excellent at cleaning and drying. It also goes above and beyond by making the process smoother, easier, and quieter for everyone in the household.
