There are two ways to go about this. You can either unplug your fridge’s power cord, or you can turn its power off at the circuit breaker.
In most modern homes, the circuit breaker is usually located in an area with minimal foot traffic, such as the basement, garage, or supply room.
Power Cool + Power Freezer

The Power Cool and Power Freezer buttons are usually located on the control panel. To verify that your unit has these buttons, check your user manual.

How to Reset the Defrost Timer of a Frigidaire Refrigerator
A defrost timer regulates the temperature of your Frigidaire refrigerator. It periodically turns off the compressor and evaporator fan motors, raising the temperature in the fridge to melt ice and prevent frost build-up.
For older models, the motor or bearings in the timer can wear out over time, which can prevent it from advancing into the defrost cycle. Your fridge will no longer automatically defrost until you resolve the problem.
If it is a minor issue, resetting the defrost timer should do the trick. However, if there is damage to the timer, a replacement is necessary.
Here’s how you can reset the defrost timer on a Top Freezer Frigidaire model.
- Step 1: Locate the defrost timer.
The location of the timer will vary per fridge model. To search faster, refer to your user manual.
Some defrost timers are mounted inside a console on the top wall of the fridge, while others are on the bottom or back panel.
- Step 2: Look for the circular notch on the timer.
- Step 3: Use a flathead screwdriver to turn the notch in a counterclockwise direction until the fan motors stop running.
- Step 4: Wait for a few minutes for your fridge to start defrosting.

Power Failure Alarm
One of the most common alarms that you will encounter with your Frigidaire refrigerator is the Power Failure alarm.
During a power outage, your unit will display a PF or Power Failure code. It will also start beeping once power is restored.
Depending on your fridge model, you can reset the alarm by pressing Alarm Reset, Mute Alarm, or the Default Settings button. Other models will require you to select the PF alarm in the Options menu before clicking on the Set button to acknowledge it.
High Temp Alarm
Your Frigidaire refrigerator’s High Temp alarm activates when its main compartment reaches 55°F(12.78°C) or its freezer reaches around 26°F(-3.33°C). You will also see an H, Hi, or H1 code(frigidaire H1 code) on the display when this happens.
To reset the alarm, press Mute Alarm on the display. Although it stops the beeping, the H1 error code will remain illuminated until the fridge reaches safe temperatures.
The ideal temperature for the fridge section is 40°F(4°C), while the freezer is 0°F(-18°C).
Door Ajar Alarm
If you leave the refrigerator door for over 5 minutes, the Door Ajar alarm will activate and the code will appear on the display.
Make sure to close the door properly to prevent the fridge’s temperature from increasing, which can set off the High Temp alarm. Then, press the Set button to reset the Door Ajar alarm.
Flapper Alarm
Does your refrigerator have an ice dispenser? Sometimes, ice can get jammed into the ice chute, and it will sound the Flapper alarm to let you know.
Along with the alarm, you will see a DI SP code on the fridge display.
Although the alarm will automatically reset after 2 minutes, you can do a manual reset by removing the jammed ice cube and pressing the Set button.
Sabbath Mode
Like most modern appliances, your Frigidaire fridge has a Sabbath mode, which allows users to observe certain religious practices during specific holidays. An SB or Sb code on the display indicates that this mode has been activated.
In Sabbath mode, your fridge’s lights, dispenser, and display will not function. However, its fridge and freezer compartments will stay cool to keep your food fresh.
Since there are different ways to activate and deactivate Sabbath mode, we recommend checking your user manual for detailed instructions.
- For Frigidaire Gallery models, simultaneously push the arrow down and + buttons for 5 seconds to reset this alarm.
- For Frigidaire Professional models, simultaneously press the – and + keys for 5 seconds.
